Velkommen til København!

I think it best to begin this endeavor with a preface: it can’t hurt. Why on God’s green Earth am I doing a blog? Why join a community of self-promoting fame by faceless names, shadowy individuals? Do I have the time for this? With schoolwork? With the experience? Well. It can’t hurt. And I say it with a shrug of the shoulders and an expression of blamelessness. It can’t hurt to try, to put into coherent sentences the thoughts running through my mind, to turn the words and fractured phrases in my stream of consciousness I’ve scribbled on fragments of paper into a more mature entity, a fleshed out and - dare I say - elegant memory. But if I’m to be honest with myself, this premise of producing coherence and eloquence is as much an outlet for laziness as a forum for expression. Oh, how many e-mails I can save, how many minutes conserved, how much memory-recalling spared, if a simple URL could encompass a majority of what would constitute a comprehensive answer! Oh yes, it is also sloth that drives me to document, to comment, and to reflect. Who woulda thunk it?

It’s been four days since I’ve been in Denmark (or Danmark, as it is pronounced). But am I going to recount those days with vivid imagery, fueled by fondness? Hell no, of course. And I’m sure anything I could write more on from those days will inevitably present itself in due time once again (and some topics, repeatedly). So, I think I shall forgo the first days: a whirlwind of orientations, presentations, speeches, awkward introductions (name, hometown, college - sound familiar?), awkward re-introductions after effectively forgetting both name and face, crash courses in Danish, airline troubles and lost luggage, escapades in navigating the city, and all that good stuff. Just think of it like freshmen year…except worse because you don’t speak Danish, know what the street signs mean, and that there are literally six females to every one male in this program. No time like the present, right? Well, here we go…
